I'm often called Funtooguy because I've promoted and marketed waterslide temporary tattoos since 1988. I view my products as an alternative to the lifetime commitment of real tattoos. I constantly do research to find the most realistic and best quality in the industry.

How Long Does A Temporary Tattoo Last?

During the past 20 plus years, the one question I am most asked is "How long will it last?". That's difficult to answer because there are so many factors involved. The quality of the transfer itself is important, but you also have to consider skin type, where you place it, and how you care for it. Kristie Congram, one of my Funtoo testers, sent the following report:

"Well I've learned a lesson here. Placement is very important.

I liked the new Butterfly tattoos so much I couldn't decide which one to try first so I put them both on, about 2 inches above each wrist, on the inside. They looked so cool... until I had been at work for about 2 hours. The spot chosen is perfectly placed to be rubbed off by the keyboard of my laptop or the desk area in front of my keyboard when the laptop is in its docking station. The delicate webbing of the tattoos was destroyed before I even got a picture of them.

The good news? The butterfly tattoo on my inside ankle lasted an amazing 6 weeks before fraying at the edges."

You need to realize that temporary tattoos are on the suface of the skin and subject to rubbing and the natureal function of the body to reject anything foreign on the skin. Think of it like paint drying on your skin...it won't wash off, but will come off in a day or two due to natural body oils breaking in down. The best way to get the longest life from your favorite temporary tattoo is to follow these steps.

1) Use only quality temporary tattoos from a trusted supplier.

2) Be sure the skin is clean and dry. Use alcohol to remove lotions or oils.

3) Place it in a area that won't be subect to rubbing...including clothing.

4) Avoid oils such as tanning oils or even perfume.

5) Wash gently and pat dry with a towel.

5) Gently apply powder once or twice a day.
